Ben L’Oncle Soul

Gig info

Please note this is a 14+ show.

Ben L'Oncle Soul offers a wild celebration of everything that’s thrilling about the classic soul revues. He grew up listening to Otis Redding and Aretha Franklin, and combines Kanye West-style R&B, Motown groove and Stax horns with a great, way-over-the-top live show. He’s become an arena artist in France, and after he sang his soul version of White Stripes’ Seven Nation Army on Later with Jools Holland, he played London Jazz Festival to a packed, ecstatic audience.

“Ben l’Oncle Soul is a soul singer of enormous charm, equally at home singing Ray Charles-style R&B, Willie Mitchell’s funk-soul and Solomon Burke-esque deep soul. His version of Seven Nation Army re-routes The White Stripes via Jamaica then Memphis, devising a reggae-infused soul setting for a delivery replete in emotional insight.  A multi-platinum success at home, the smoky tinge to Ben’s voice works well against the punchy Motown groove and Stax-y horns of Soulman."  – The Independent
