BLACKBERRY PRESENTS MTV’s BRAND NEW FOR 2011 CONCERTS

WITH CHASE & STATUS AND PERFORMANCES FROM MTV’s BRAND NEW FOR 2011 FINALISTS CLARE MAGUIRE & MONA

To celebrate in style, ‘Blackberry Presents MTV’s Brand New for 2011’ will hold two gigs at Camden’s KOKO on  Tuesday 25th & Wednesday 26th January. The gigs will have exclusive performances from four of the finalists ‘Blackberry Presents MTV’s Brand New for 2011’; Mona and Clare Maguire.  Surprise headlining acts will be announced in January.

‘Blackberry Presents MTV’s Brand New for 2011’ is the list of emerging talent MTV have tipped for the top in 2011.  This year’s list of new talent is even more far-reaching than previous, spanning across genres grime, rock, dub-step, indie and pop.

MONA

Mona, the fantastically exciting new Nashville based rock band, will release their highly anticipated second single ‘Trouble On The Way’ as a digital download in early 2011 with a limited edition 7-inch with the b-side ‘Brick Shoes’ also available through Rough Trade and other Independent Stores. The track will surely build on the reaction already growing around them.

‘Trouble On The Way’ is a statement of intent from a band who will take 2011 by storm. The track is an unrelenting, fearless, out and out vintage rock song. The single is the follow up to Mona’s unyielding debut single ‘Listen To Your Love’ which was released in early September 2010.

CLARE MAGUIRE

It’s all about the voice. A big, blues belter of a voice, a voice that’s lived a little, that knows things, that hints huskily of hidden mysteries. It was the voice that drew people in, when they heard its siren call over MySpace, and producers who got in touch asking for guest vocals were always surprised to find that it belonged to a slip of a girl from a large Irish family in Birmingham.

Inspired by everything from the death of her hero Michael Jackson (‘The Last Dance’) to the magic of childhood (‘The Happiest Pretenders’) or the loneliness of her first few months in the capital (the uplifting, gospel-inflected ‘Break These Chains’), the tracks on her debut album ‘Light After Dark’ are torch songs for the 21st century, both completely contemporary and utterly timeless.

THIS SHOW IS STRICTLY 16+
