Meet Slow Club, a folk rock duo who hail from Sheffield and are as much known for their banging of glass bottles and chairs, as for their catchy hooks. Formed back in 2005, the band comprises of Rebecca Taylor and Charles Watson, who are currently signed to infamous indie label Moshi Moshi Records. They snapped up the pair after seeing them support US band Tilly and the Wall and their relationship has grown ever since; the label released their debut album ‘Yeah so’ back in 2009 and their most recent offering ‘Paradise’ which is available now. The pair are probably best known for their live stage presence which is best describe by Dan Martin, in a recent review of the guys in NME and can be witnesses in person, when ‘the club’ arrive at KOKO.
"Then all of the riotous frolics fall away and the energy in the room switches to the kind of eerie where people hush gruffly at the slightest murmur. And yet in this case it isn't annoying, because as the pair of them stand, hands by sides, chins tilted up like choir-kids, they tiptoe through an a cappella 'Gold Mountain' and yet another side is revealed. To silence a hoedown with the drop of a pin takes considerable power. We should underestimate what this pair pull off next at our peril." NME live review – Dan Martin – 23/2/12
